Epithelial cells  regulate ion and fluid balance across organs and are essential for normal organ function. However under pathological conditions dysregulated epithelial functions can initiate severe, often lethal diseases. The Episignal Research Group is dedicated to understand physiological epithelial ion secretory processes and signalling events and to determine how these functions change in diseases. With this knowledge our aim is to translate these insights into novel therapies for life-threatening diseases such as cystic fibrosis, and acute or chronic pancreatitis.
